by When in Jersey, one should really have a Trenton-style Pizza Pie (commonly known as a “tomato pie,” prepared with tomato sauce on top of the mozzarella)…but in Robbinsville, NJ, you can take it a step further by having a “mustard pie” at “Papa’s Tomatoes Pies”. Yes, it’s just what it sounds like…a pizza pie with spicy brown mustard slathered on it in place of tomato sauce!
We visited the restaurant to experience for ourselves this unique bit of pizza history. We ordered a plain mustard pie and Jen didn’t understand the hype, but Doug thought it was definitely a few steps above pineapple on a pizza. Later Doug put garlic and sweet Italian sausage on heated-up leftovers and thought it merited two thumbs up.
