We spent the night (literally) with the new Barbie movie in appropriate van life style! The Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre in North Carolina participates in the Harvest Hosts program, so we were able to reserve a one-night stay at the location, with our only costs being the admission fees and, of course, dinner at the concession stand. We were then able to park in the last row of the drive-in theater, throw open our back doors, and watch the movie from the comfort of our own beds.
The concession stand snacks seemed a cut above the usual, and of course we indulged in some good old-fashioned fried food for our supper. Followed by popcorn. And maybe some movie candy. And then some soft-serve ice cream. We settled in for the film and were tucked in by the time the credits rolled at the end.
In the morning, we made coffee, packed up, and headed out for our day’s adventures. This was definitely a new camping experience for us both, and it was Jennifer’s first-ever drive-in movie!
As for Barbie, I dare not get into a movie review; there were definitely some discussions between us about just how quickly and easily the Barbies slipped into a patriarchal society. For a more detailed analysis and dissection of the message of the film, feel free to email Jennifer directly….
