Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art

We had to pop into the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art because there was a Monet painting that I wanted to see.

However, we were pleased to discover a delightful collection of Florida-centric artwork, in addition to Tiffany glass and lamps and many other interesting artifacts.

The museum is part of the University of Florida in Gainesville, and opened in 1990 thanks to a gift made by the family of Samuel Peebles Harn in his honor.

The cover photo is a Tiger Skin Pattern Sancai Glaze Bowl from the Qing dynasty, 18th-19th century.

Champ d’avoine (Oat Field), Claude Monet, 1890.  Oops, I set off an alarm getting too close.
As always, I love a good close-up of a Monet. Champ d’avoine (Oat Field).
Jody and Flag, N.C. Wyeth, 1938.  Wyeth created a series of illustrations for Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings’ novel The Yearling; we had plans to visit her home later in the week, and of course we had previously visited Wyeth’s home.  It’s all coming together!
A 1945 edition of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings’ novel The Yearling featuring the Wyeth illustration Jody and Flag.
Castillo de San Marcos, Louis Comfort Tiffany, 1885.  Renowned for his glass and lamps, I had no idea Tiffany painted!  This is another Florida-themed painting, and the subject is in St. Augustine.
Gloucester, Childe Hassam, 1919.
Trailer Park Garden, Stevan Dohanos, 1951.  Don’t get much more Florida than this, ha-ha! This was for a cover of the Saturday Evening Post.
Old Country Store, Mandarin, Florida, Emmett John Fritz, undated.
Boudoir Table Lamp, Louis Comfort Tiffany, early 20th century.
Eighteen-Light Pond Lily Lamp, Louis Comfort Tiffany, c. 1902.  I love the shadow this lamp casts.  This won a grand prize at the 1902 World’s Fair held in Turin, Italy.
