Sure we’ve already been to a few miniature and toy museums already, but they haven’t lost their allure yet, so why not see another. The Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys in Lakewood, Colorado, is a quick and inexpensive way to spend 45 minutes or so.
Their website says they have more than 20,000 objects, but I’m wondering if that includes each piece inside the miniature displays, because it’s inconceivable otherwise they have that much stuff in such a small space. However, it seems that they moved to this current space a few years ago and are still in the process of opening galleries, which may be the source of incongruity.
Though the title of the museum implies you’ll be seeing miniatures, dolls and toys, we saw primarily miniatures with just a few toys and dolls on display. However, the miniatures are what we find fascinating, so that was fine with us.
There were a few items that were very impressive, but overall I felt the quality was not as good as we’d seen elsewhere. That’s right, show me a few miniatures, and suddenly I’m a judgmental expert. Or maybe the novelty has worn off?
