Birds, Bites, and a Bunny from the Denver, Colorado Area

Doug and I wound up spending a fair amount of time bouncing around the Denver area. In addition to visiting lots of museums, we got in a good amount of birding, and of course we had to eat to survive.

Female redwing blackbird with something to say.
Black-chinned hummingbird. I cannot believe how many hummingbirds we have found sitting in trees recently.
A violet-green swallow.
Mountain bluebird.
Western bluebird.
Bullock’s oriole (I think).
I love the markings/coloring on the black-billed magpie.
A locally made root beer, but it didn’t do much for me.
Noodles and Company was founded in a Denver suburb in 1995, so I used that as an excuse to try it. In retrospect, maybe I should have tried noodles, but I was underwhelmed with this pasta dish.
The Chipotle chain was founded in Denver in 1993, and I didn’t really need this excuse to stop in, since I love Chipotle!

If an ice cream shop features a giant ice cream can, that’s a sure sign you’re in for a treat. Little Man Ice Cream did not disappoint – I was ready to make it dinner every day but meanie Doug said no.

Parlor Doughnuts came up on our search of “best best doughnuts in Denver” and they lived up to the hype. They were decadent and delicious and weighed approximately 18 pounds each.

Smashburger was founded in Denver in 2007.
The cinnamon rolls at Duffeyrolls did not disappoint!

Though John Denver was not born in Colorado, he did launch his career in Denver and live a good part of his life here. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. but took his stage name from his favorite city. He was so passionate about it that his ashes were scattered in the Colorado Rocky Mountains.

We did this picture puzzle while at our campsite outside of Denver. The image seemed appropriate! Growing up I learned many John Denver songs, thanks to my mother being a big fan. So while we worked on our puzzle, Doug humored me by listening to an assortment of songs, most of which I was able to sing along to (poor, poor Doug!).
Jagged Mountain Craft Brewery had several very nice brews on tap.
The cheeseburger at The Original Chubby’s Mexican Food is covered in chili sauce!
