Alaska! Another new state in our grand adventure! Unfortunately, we did not go to Alaska in the van. Doug needed to be in Michigan on Thursday and Alaska on Friday, so that meant we had to fly. Someday we hope to drive all the way in the van.
Doug had an all-day work event scheduled in Anchorage, so I used that time to go to the gym, for which I rewarded myself with a trip to the Alaska Botanical Garden.
As we discovered, we were a bit late for the season for lots of things, but the gardens still had plenty of life in them – along with a discounted entry fee. Sweet!
The gardens are on 110-acres, a good chunk of which is a spruce and birch forest. I took a walk through this, but after passing several signs warning of the bears, it was one of my faster walks. I expected more people around, but instead saw absolutely no one, so spent the entire time scanning for bears, and yes, I did actually sing and otherwise make noise.
While we were out of step for many things in Alaska (bears, salmon, tours, whales, etc.), we were right on time for the fall color show. The yellow leaves of the birch trees were absolutely stunning against the bright blue skies (when we had them!).
Beautiful!
Thanks!
