Georgeson Botanical Garden

The Georgeson Botanical Garden (GBG) in Fairbanks was technically “closed for the season”, but visitors could still stroll the grounds. You just had to do it with the expectation that the grounds were being prepared for winter and no longer cultivated for tourists. No problem! Even though we were there at the end of September, that’s already getting pretty cold this far north, so I was pleased to find any flowers in bloom. At just five acres (or three or nine acres, depending on your source), the gardens are small and don’t take long to walk through.

The GBG is the farthest-north botanical garden, so needless to say it focuses on high-latitude horticulture. They are part of the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.
