It’s no secret I love the Impressionists, and wow, does the National Gallery of Art have a great collection. This post just barely scratches the surface. I thought it would be fun to take a nice look at them, in conjunction with their exhibit Paris 1874: The Impressionist Moment. Our post about the exhibit talks about how these artists just couldn’t find success in the beginning. It’s a marvel to me to look at these paintings and wonder what the problem was, and think how lucky we are that they persevered.
The cover photo to this post is Beach at Trouville, 1864/1865, Eugène Boudin. Unless otherwise noted, the artists in this post are all French.
