High Points in High Point, N.C.

Business took me on a quick weekend trip to North Carolina, and I was able to squeeze in a few forays for burgers, beers, and barbecue around my work obligations.

High Point, N.C., is the “Furniture Capital of the World,” and besides the dozens and dozens of furniture showrooms and dealers, it is home to a unique oversized feature — the famous “World’s Largest Chest of Drawers!” Built in 1926 as the “Bureau of Information,” this 36-foot high structure, complete with socks hanging out of an open drawer, celebrates the city’s history in the furniture industry.

High Point is about 15 miles as the crow files from the Winston-Salem location of the world’s first Krispy Kreme in 1937, and the vintage sign at the High Point store marks it surely as a location that has been around for a long time, too! So of course I had to stop in for breakfast (and then some!).

I love this authentic retro sign!
Classic Krispy Kremes.
On my way from the airport, i stopped at Bang-Bang Burgers in Charlotte for one of their nationally-acclaimed offerings!
The patio at Brown Truck Brewery was buzzing on a Friday night, and I enjoyed this stout very much.
