University of Tennessee Gardens, Knoxville

The UT (University of Tennessee) Gardens in Knoxville, Tenn., were an unexpected delight. In fact, I’d say that they are one of the best free gardens I’ve seen.  They had so much variety, even in early October, and the beds were clearly well-maintained.  Going at sunset really brought some of the plantings to life, too!

The gardens are part of and managed by the University of Tennessee. In 2013, the governor designated them as the State Botanical Garden of Tennessee, along with two other sites in Jackson and Crossville.

But you know that this is really just an excuse to post flower pictures, so let’s get to it. (NB, I swear I culled the photos considerably!)
