Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed that some day I could visit a lunchbox museum, and now that dream has come true thanks to #vanlife! Ha ha!
All kidding aside, we like whimsical things, so why not? Most people had a lunchbox as a kid – it was fun to revisit our childhood in a small way. I know I had a lunchbox, but I can’t remember what it was. Doug had a good time trying to remember what boxes he and his brothers might have used.
The collection got its start in 1985 when Allen Woodall purchased his first lunchbox, and it grew from there. He even wrote a book, Illustrated Encyclopedia of Metal Lunch Boxes, which has a 5-star rating on Amazon! There are more than 5,000 pieces in the collection today.
The museum is part of the Columbus Collective Museums in Columbus, Georgia. There are 6 other museums as part of the collection, though truth be told, they don’t pack quite as much fun:
- The Royal Crown Cola Museum
- The Chero Cola Museum
- The Nehi Drink Museum
- The Tom Huston Peanuts Museum
- The Georgia Radio Museum & Hall of Fame
- The Car Museum
