by The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis has absolutely stunning tilework inside, the largest mosaic installations in the world outside of Russia. It contains nearly 42 million glass tesserae pieces in more than 7,000 colors! The mosaics cover 83,000 square feet. I’m telling you, it’s something to see!
Ground was broken in 1907, but it would take 80 years for work to be completed on the cathedral. The structure was completed in 1914, but the mosaics were not considered done until 1988! The design is combination of Byzantine and Romanesque styles.
